NPS Rollback of Hunting Regulation in Alaska National Preserves
Under pressure from the Interior Department, the National Park Service is considering new rules to roll back 2015 regulations that prohibited certain State of Alaska-allowed hunting practices in National Preserves. In 2015 NPS concluded that these practices were inconsistent with the purpose of the preserves. Now, under new nationwide Interior Department directives to pursue consistency with state rules, NPS is attempting to reverse its decision. Here are links to the relevant NPS documents and to DCC’s comments on the rule and the accompanying Environmental Assessment. We also include a joint response from Trustees for Alaska on behalf of many organizations, including DCC.
