EPA and GVEA Reach Deal to Start Healy Coal Plan
Today the Environmental Protection Agency and Golden Valley Electric Association announced that they had reached a deal to allow GVEA to move forward with restarting the Healy Clean Coal Plant that has been shuttered since its test runs in the late 1990’s. The consent decree will require new pollution controls both on HCCP and the smaller “Healy 1” unit that has long been in operation. DCC has worked with other conservation groups to try and make sure the restart could be accomplished as cleanly as possible.
