The Alaska Mental Health Trust Authority Lands Office is proposing a competitive mineral lease offering on 37,629 acres 12-14 miles east of Ferry in the Bonnifield Mining District. The proposed lease area roughly falls into the California Creek and Totlanika River drainages, and is being referred to as the “Liberty Bell Block.” Gold mining has previously taken place in this vicinity, and the region is considered promising for further finds of both placer and lode gold. The AMHTA Lands Office has released a Best Interest Decision on the competitive lease, and is accepting public comment through March 14 at 4:30pm.
